Disciple

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world”. Matthew 5:14

John quoted Jesus as saying, “I am the light of the world.” John 8:12

We believe in teaching our students to so shine their light in the world that when people look at it they see Jesus. This means our primary focus in Sonship Creative Academy is to disciple our students to look like Jesus.

Our students learn who Jesus is. More than who they might think, but to actually have a growing relationship with Jesus so they know, personally, who Jesus is. Children know who their parents are through experience, their words, and belonging. If we know Jesus only by His written words, then we are invited into a relationship of experiencing Him and belonging to Him.

First, our students learn how to hear His voice. Jesus said, ‘My sheep know My voice.” John 1:27. This means we teach our students how to hear God, personally. Through His written Word and through His spoken Word we learn how to discern and distinguish His voice in our lives.

Next, our students learn to follow. Jesus not only wants them to hear Him, He says because of that they will also follow.(John 1:27). Following is a multi-faceted instruction, it can mean obedience, laying your will down, learning to love, being a servant, living in joy and peace. To be like Jesus means to be like all of Him not just the parts we find easy.

Finally, discipleship takes practice. We do not automatically become disciples, there is a process of becoming like Him. Hebrews 5 talks about milk and meat and having our sense trained. We do this in an environment where we know the process and provide loving, patient support as students learn to be like Jesus.
